How Diet Affect Your Sleep

By Elaine Jackson

Your general health and body weight not just depend on what you eat but also on how much you sleep and how good your sleep is. Things that you eat can affect your sleep and its quality seriously. Some can improve it but some can make your sleep difficult.

Products like fruits, cereals and whole grain breads, green leafy vegetables, mushrooms can help to improve your sleep. Also spices including dill, sage and basil for instance also will aid in improving your sleep.

Probably you remember the days when your parents put you to bed with a glass of warm milk. It was done with a reason. Milk can help you sleep better because it's rich in tryptophan that helps in creating serotonin, a hormone that controls sleep.

To get more tryptophan and if you're craving a snack then products like turkey, honey, tuna and egg whites should be the best choice. They are tryptophan rich and additionally will help you with sleep.

Caffeine is what you should avoid before your bedtime. This stimulant can help you in the morning to wake up quicker but it's not good if you're trying to fall asleep. Chocolate, coffee, tea, soft drinks, cocoa all contain caffeine so these products better leave for the next day.

Also you should avoid tyramine rich foods such as bacon, cheese, sugar, ham or tomatoes. Tyramine helps in release of a substance that helps you to stay awake.

Also spicy foods are not recommended straight before your night sleep. Indigestion and heartburn caused by them could affect your sleep negatively. Alcohol also should be avoided. First impression is that after taking it you feel sleepy, but sleep usually is disturbed by frequent walks to toilet and thirst.

The amounts you eat also have an impact on the quality of your sleep. It's recommended to have light meals in the evening. This way potential indigestion, bloating or overall discomfort can be avoided.

Additionally, to improve your sleep you can take vitamins and supplements. Supplements that include vitamins B6 and B12, calcium, magnesium and valerian should help you.

To have a good sleep you should really look after what you eat, when you eat and how much you eat. If you feel that your sleep is affected by the food you eat, try changing it to much lighter and healthier.

Fashion Industry's Hiring Trends

By John Smith

Networking

If you ask from the fashion industry people you will find that there are many people who dreamed of working there all their lives and people who got caught into their position by chance. One associate designer said that to get into the creative end of the industry, proper education is must. You need to study designs for this. On the other hand technical people like buyers and inventory planner, are more likely to be fallen into their jobs. Although fashion professional agreed that having industry contact is much more important than having talent. "To find a job," reveals an employee from federated, "It's very important to use the people you know. I found my first job through contacts next job through exploratory notes and third was luck-- I got it out of a newspaper advertisement. I'd say my first job was the easiest to find."

While many people -- and fashion students in particular -- might feel dismayed by this need to know the "right people," one insider says worry is unnecessary. A career counselor from a top New York fashion school said that students often think they cannot make connections while confined within college walls. This is totally a myth. Connection is another word for making relations. You have relationships with other students, professors, career counselors, the school administration and many others. At fashion schools, most of the teachers have previous experience in the fashion industry." What does that mean? An acquaintance at your school or workplace might already have valuable job information! It all comes down to networking. To find the right fashion job for you, it is necessary to discuss your job search with the people you know -- and with the people they know. Ask questions, inquire about openings, and request informational interviews. Fashion students should attend as many college-sponsored events as possible and seek relevant internships. After a fashion internship has ended, they should keep in touch with their managers. A fashion career counselor confirms, "Those who serve as intern advisors often grow very fond of their interns. They want to know that you've graduated; they want to help and advise you."

Internships

Most fashion industry are in design, marketing, and production - and unpaid. If we talk about the entertainment industry actual education isn't important as work experience. If you want that your resume or connection will get you further then you need some education to get in the door. If you want to go into this line then at least get an internship or even a part time job in sales or merchandising to get started. Each experience on your resume will help you better to get a job further. Although many job searches are posted on publication section and many internships searches are self directed because many are never publicized. If the position is at a popular company or designer, the internship will never be posted since everyone will want it on his or her resume.

Make sure to show your desire to learn and help the company-- even if you think that your level of responsibility is not as high as you would like. Once you are in the company you can easily find out the other openings in the company even if these openings have not opened yet. Make our resume in such a way so that you get the interviews and introduction. Even if your initial job in the fashion industry may not pay you well. There are several options here - you work to get the experience or to learn enough to start your own business. If you thinking of the latter one then take any experience you can. It will pay off later.

Take initiative

While different fashion positions requires different skills, most insiders agree that the industry calls for initiative, patience and a strong degree of independence. One insider said that it is good to have a mentor who will teach you all the things and also push you. Despite the prestige and job satisfaction insiders have their gripes. One informant says that its too competitive both within the industry and within the office. Sometimes people become unethical they might give you the commitment but after that they drop the ball. Sometimes clients cancel the order and then I face the loss. Its a huge time commitment which offers another contacts in buying. I often started early and then stay late-- and I also travel a good part of the time. You lose perspective after so many hours." A different buyer adds, " I often spend 12 hours at work and eat lunch at my desk. Burnout. There's a lot of burnout."

Getting the job, acing the interview

There are two school of thought in regard to moving up the fashion ranks. Some insiders said that if you want to see yourself high it is necessary to switch companies. According to one knowing source Many companies have non mobile positions where employees are pegged in their certain roles. In other words if you are an assistant of the company everyone will perceive you as an assistant only. If you want to increase your ranks, you have to be hard worker, know the right people or lie on your resume, says one informant. I was a hard worker and I had a great boss who served as my mentor. By staying right where I was, I ended up moving up into key roles."

Once the job interview has been arranged for the company candidate should do the extensive research.

Examine the company literature and read the company web site is a good option. Just see the most recent articles on the company development. Some insider's advices that it is good if you go to the library of a fashion school and then ask somebody if you don't able to find information. It is good if you ask the employer that how they work and what they do exactly. Last but not least go and shop the brand or retailer. You should know this thing that what type of Product Company deals in. Also research the company biggest rivals. General knowledge of key fashion players is also important. Insiders recommend brushing up on your mental database of trendsetter: Prada, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Alexander McQueen and Ralph Lauren, among others.

Always establish a rapport in front of the person who is interviewing you. You cant be bump on a log answering question, even if you have a great resume and portfolio. Your resume is also about fit so let your personality also show through. She also continues that it is not good if you ask about the salary on the first round of the interview. It is good if you ask intelligent question about the company, position and even the interviewer experience. Even if you lack experience in a particular area, an employer may hire you if he or she thinks you are quick and willing to learn.

The persons working as professionals recommend precautions observation about the clothes you are going to wear for the D-day. Definitely, employers are going to notice what the person coming for an interview to them is wearing and how. As some wise person had quoted "Your first impression is the last impression." With the same logic, one theatrical designer has advocated the careful observation about your clothes. Though, it is agreeable that this situation is not a universal truth but even then it's always advisable to dress well. Another insider quoted " Nothing out of the norms, unless you are aspiring to be a fashion designer and the organization conduction interview is looking for out of the league and futuristic looks." Good Tip - Be overdressed rather than under dressed.

The Martial Arts, Zen, and Enlightenment!

By Al Case

The martial arts have long been held up as a means to achieve enlightenment. Indeed, this is the goal at the end of the road for every True Martial Artist. This article is about why this is so, and to enable the reader to reach the end of that road this lifetime.

Enlightenment is when light shines forth from the individual. With that light the enlightened being views the world differently. His perceptions are heightened, and he has a superior viewpoint.

If enlightenment happened because of the fact of motion, then movement would result in enlightenment. Hockey, ballet, football, all would result in an enlightened individual, but they don't, so one must ask oneself, what is it about the Martial Arts that they result in enlightenment of the human being?

What is different is that there is combat, and when one understands the essence of combat, one becomes enlightened. What is the essence of combat? One could sum up the subject by saying that when one finally understands he is opposing himself, he becomes enlightened, and a study of the martial arts does eventually result in this.

The universe, you see, is a space filled with moving objects. Every object in the universe has a direction that it is going in. It is only in the martial arts that one actually engages in the study of the directions of objects as the one who creates the direction.

A fist flies through space at you, and this causes you to go through a range of emotions. Eventually, you give up emotions so that you can better analyze the trajectory of the incoming fist. Thus, you rise above the fact of emotional reaction and become cause over the motion of the universe.

A person threatens you, he holds a weapon and stalks you, and you must divine the direction before it manifests. You must look at the world as it is, and not through some fantasy, and thus you look at the world you created. Thus, you rise above being the flotsam and jetsam of a universe awash with random motion, and thus you take the reins of your own destiny.

There would be no motion in this universe, you see, were it not for the fact of you. That star shines because of you, if it wasn't for you, there would be no purpose for that star to emit even the faintest shred of light. And through the tempering of form, the steeling of will, the martial artist engages in fighting to give up fighting, and thus becomes an enlightened being free to roam the universe as he wishes.

Believe

By Dr. Jay Polmar

Beliefs determine how we see, interact and experience the world around us. Beliefs are ideas that are made after repetition and contemplation, that are accepted as truth and reality and therefore impact how we see life.

Belief and knowledge are often in conflict. The difference might be subtle, but substantial. Knowledge is something that you and others, who might be considered experts in that field, consider to be true and there is reasonable, plausible, and provable scientific explanation for that knowledge.

A belief on the other hand is founded on personal experience or only on faith.

Too many people require you to accept their belief based on blind faith. Belief is not knowledge and therefore usually not provable beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Recall that it wasn't long ago that people believed the world is flat, and that we thought women were witches, hunted them down, and burned them.

Welcome to belief, which is based on superstitious people, or ignorance.

Ignorant humans who once believed that the Earth was the center of the universe, and that it was flat. Really demonstrated that what really was FLAT was the human ability to think outside the box and perceive something that others could not observe.

When scientists discovered great things, hundreds of years ago, they were jailed, tortured and murdered. The Catholic Church did not want people to see clearly, and therefore stopped the voices of these researchers.

Actually, during that time in history it was thought to be common knowledge that these ancient flat world beliefs were true. Even though humankind was sincere in its ignorant beliefs, those beliefs were false and by not believing as the others told you to, you were subject to arrest, imprisonment, and torture which often lead to death.

Times have changed. Today, things that you believe have changed, and you may believe in something so strongly that you count it as knowledge. When, in fact, there may be considerable proof from the past experience that a particular belief is a truth - its only truth for you from your personal experience. Just because you believe it is true, does not make it true. Although it might become a truth for you personally, by believing it you are limiting yourself by holding on to self-limiting beliefs.

The trick is to pull back the veneer and see the real truth. That is one that is universal and does not need to be believed, it just is. These are referred to as universal truths. They exist and work beyond our own self-limiting beliefs. They shape and work through the universe and in our lives.

Gravity is a truth. Believe in it or not - its still a real truth. If you drop something it will fall to the ground. If you trip, and fall, you could hurt your butt. You can only fall DOWN you'll never fall up.

Now this is only a truth that exists here on Earth under normal circumstances. There are other forces that can resist this law such as a strong wind. You may have been programmed since childhood to believe things that you thought to be true - but, once you recognize that they were not true, you may have wondered why you wasted time and energy believing in them at all.

Take the case of Santa Claus. You believed he was real. You believed that by some mystical miracle he went around the world in one night and brought presents to every well-behaved child. You may have further believed that he ate the burnt cookies you left for him and he drank that horrible lactose free milk. You believe that it was all related to your doing good things and not bad things, and that Santa was well, almost like God!

There was strong evidence to your belief:

Your parents persuaded that you he was real. (You trusted your parents unquestionably)

The cookies were eaten and the milk glass was empty. Even the crumbs disappeared.

There were gifts under the Christmas tree in the morning.

You saw Santa at the supermarket, and you had a picture of Santa to prove it.

Your friends believed in him also.

All of this proves pointed toward knowledge, you just knew he existed. It pointed to a truth in that not only did you know he existed, everyone around you knew also. This belief as you found out was not true. It had shaped your view of the world as a child and still may have a lingering impact on your current belief system.

The point is that there are other things that you may believe are true, but are not. You have been told things all your life for a variety of reasons: to make you feel better, to be funny, to hurt you, because other people believed it was true, and for other noble and not so noble reasons. You made the choice whether to believe what was being told you. You weighed this information and decided whether it fit or not into your already existing belief system. You either rejected the idea straight out, accepted it as part of what you already believed, or it changed your belief system.

Beliefs are very powerful, and they do shape our reality. If you believe in something strong enough, it becomes real in your life. There is a universal law that states that likes attract like. If you believe in something strong enough it not only becomes your reality, it attracts similar things in your life.

Suppose you believe you are clumsy. Your parents said you were clumsy, your coach as school did and so did your friends. They told you that you were an accident waiting to happen. You thought this to be true. Your whole life you tripped over your shadow. Not only did you believe this, but you also created the reality and circumstances of being clumsy.

Examine your beliefs and draw back the veil. Well, Ill be. They seem to have constantly hypnotized me to trip myself up -- all my life -- well, I'll be! And, then - you don't have to be! It's all your belief.
