How To Get Rid Of Asthma Attacks

By Johnson Star

Asthma is a chronic ailment. This means it is long lasting. To be really technical, there isn't a cure for it. But that doesn't mean you can never "get rid" of it. You can get your asthma to a point where the condition is still there, but you have a near total control over it and asthma attacks almost no longer occur; if it does occur, it is mild. But even after having controlled your asthma, it is still wise to keep your medications and inhalers nearby. The last thing you want to happen is a severe asthma attack with no medicine around to provide almost immediate relief.

Getting rid of your attacks may require a more active role on your part than you might like to think. Your doctor is only responsible for your controller medication and treatments after all. Your actions will be the one that determines the affectivity of everything that is given you. Simple steps like avoiding smoky areas, cleaning the house, wearing a scarf during cold days can help you avoid attacks while you are in the process of strengthening your immune system through medication and exercise.

The sooner you act; the sooner you will feel the effects. Carrying a note book with you is a good idea. You can list down all instances of your asthma attacks along with details that may have triggered it. How long was the attack? Under what conditions did you get the attack? What time did it happen? What did you eat that day? Were you outdoors? Try to make it as detailed as you can. You can show the notebook to your doctor the next time you go in for a checkup. This helps your doctor figure out how to possibly improve your asthma management plan.

Each person has his own asthma severity and no single treatment or medicine will work for all asthmatics. The only difference between those who have successfully managed their condition and those who have not is the level of cooperation and participation. Asthmatics have a role to play in the effectiveness of their treatments and medications. If they go out and frequently stay in smoking areas, for instance, their asthma will only get worse.

Asthma can be one of two things for you; it can either be a nuisance that shouldn't be taken seriously or a threat that needs your attention and action in order to achieve relief. Think about these two perspectives and asses where you are at when it comes to understanding and taking care of your condition. This will determine how much relief you can expect to experience in the future.
