Health Diet 101

For many people, dieting is one thing that is not necessary for a healthy living. The idea is an offspring of the prejudice that dieting is self-inflicted torture. Hence, although it does well to the body, many people have veered away from it and would rather just stick with workouts while eating uncontrollably. However, if dieting is applied correctly, it should be an effective complementary routine to the daily workouts to keep a fit and healthy body.

Dieting does not require someone to forego meals or reduce food intake dramatically to the point of near starvation. Otherwise, it will only take a week or more when the effort of dieting is ceased due to the physical and psychological trauma brought by about by the self-inflicted hunger. Even foregoing a meal may not do favor for the objective of losing weight. After a skipping a meal, there is always the possibility of eating more in the next one regardless of what food there is.

In a diet, you are not given the choice of eating or not because it, in fact, obliges you to eat. You are not even imposed with meal schedules to follow at all cost. It is basically a control valve on what food you are supposed to eat and what you should avoid. It is, therefore, a list of food that you must eat to keep you fit and healthy. Dieting is actually kind and caring to your body.

Of course, to stay on the course of dieting consciously, a plan must be made. Without one, dieting can just last for a couple of days or a week at most. Writing the plan and the policies and having it posted conspicuously wherever the tempting appetite is strong will help much. The plan does not control the dieter though. There are times when the dieter must adapt to situations and, therefore, must be flexible enough. Sometimes, eating a little of those taboo food in the plan may help in avoiding a breakdown, a situation when the dieter gives in to the cravings for good.

The main types of food that the dieter must avoid to remain fit and healthy are those with high cholesterol and sugar content. Cholesterol is a saturated fat found in chicken, pork and beef meats. These fatty foods raise the risk of cardiovascular diseases when the cholesterol finds its way to the human bloodstreams. Sugar, aside from the fact that it may cause diabetes, can also trigger stronger appetite that could result in overeating.

Instead, the diet should include whole grain food, fresh unprocessed fruits, and vegetables. For the source of protein, which is usually meat, a fair amount of lean meat, fish, and beans should be included in the menu. Although the list can be liberal, the dieter should still make sure that he does not eat these in excessive amounts.
