NuPhedrine Offers Real Hoodia But Will It Help Dieters Shed Pounds?

By Ernesto Martinez

NuPhedrine is a diet pill that makes some bold claims, such as the ability to burn more calories and increase athletic endurance. The product touts its main ingredients South African Hoodia, Slimaluma and Advantra-Z as the answer to guaranteed weight loss. NuPhedrine also makes the claims that its products are completely free of any side effects. The Web site offers plenty of extraordinary pictures of men and women who have lost weight on the product, though in some of the pictures its hard to identify if the same individual is featured in the before and after picture. Before rushing out the buy the product, dieters should be aware of exactly what their getting into when taking NuPhedrine.

Hoodia Gordonii

This plant grows in Namibia and South Africa, and has a bitter taste that helped bushmen hunters survive long hunting trips by suppressing the appetite. The hoodia's hunger suppression element, p57, can be isolated from the plant, but no tests have proven any real capability to suppress the appetite. While the manufacturers of NuPhedrine have certification that the diet pill does contain South African hoodia, independent clinical tests haven't been made to prove this claim yet. In addition, we can't really tell whether the p57 amounts in NuPhedrine are actually high enough to affect hunger.

The claim that hoodia is side effect free is also not supported. Pharmaceutical giant, Pfizer, had originally licensed the rights to develop hoodia then returned these rights due to problems with developing hoodia. Part of the problem is that hoodia may have unwanted affects on the liver. Because the product is still relatively untested in humans besides bushman, caution should be used. Individuals with liver or kidney problems, pregnant or nursing women and children should not use NuPhedrine. In diabetics, there is concern that hoodia could cause a drop in blood sugar and dehydration could occur.

Advantra-Z

This is synephrine's, or bitter orange's, patented version -- it has vitamins and some protein thrown into the mix. Bitter orange is a stimulant like ephedrine, and also makes you feel less hungry. Bitter orange has taken the place of ephredine in the diet supplement scene after the latter got banned. NuPhedrine manufacturers insist that Advantra-Z doesn't have caffeine or ephedra, but bitter orange still has the same side effects, such as spiking the blood pressure.

Slimaluma

Slimaluma is a standardized form of caralluma fimbriata, a cactus like plant from India. Like hoodia gordonii, it has been consumed by locals for centuries as an appetite suppressant. A few small studies on the product look promising for the plants ability to reduce appetite and help reduce body mass. However, more research is needed on the product to back up these claims. Caraclluma fimbriata has not been shown to have any significant side effects.
