The Importance Of A Humidifier In Day-to-Day Life

By Nadia McCarthy

A humidifier is an interesting household appliance. It is used to increase the humidity in a room. Humidity involves the measure of the atmospheric water vapor level. Absorption depends upon relative humidity. If the humidity is low, then the evaporation rate will be high whereas a room with high humidity will have low evaporation rate.

Humidity in general could be high or low, depending on the situation. It is the measure of presence of water vapor in atmosphere. Depending upon the amount of water vapor in air the humidity varies. In highly humid conditions we won't perspire and makes us to feel a lot warmer than the actual temperature in the room. In this position, the air is dumped fully with water content and is not able to absorb any more.

In a low humid condition, the water in the air is very much less and the air can absorb a plenty of water, which will make one to sweat quickly and it is sucked rapidly by the surrounding air. At this stage one feels much cooler than the atmosphere. Humidity should not be at both the extremes, it should be in an optimal stage so that our body becomes safer and feels good.

Evaporation type of humidifier has two basic elements, namely a fan and a base. The air in the humidifier is blown over the wet area by the humidifier fan. The air then spreads throughout the place along with the water vapor, making the place warm. The drawback of this kind of humidifier is that one has to clean the wet water pad regularly to avoid bacterial contamination.

Ultrasonic humidifier consists of a metal diaphragm which vibrates at ultrasonic frequency. This high frequency helps to water droplets which when leaves the humidifier resembles a cool fog. They should be maintained clean to prevent bacterial contamination.

A vaporizer humidifier consists of a vaporization chamber, larger storage chamber, and a fan. Air is drawn inside the vaporization chamber with the help of the fan, which is located above the chamber. Heating of air is done inside the vaporization chamber, which is enclosed inside the larger storage chamber and the air is dispelled trough this chamber. To minimize burns and to control the temperature of the air, the vaporization is constructed with self cleaning technology.

Forced air humidifier is another commonly used humidifier. It consists if three styles namely drum style, disc wheel style and flow through style. The main of water in the tank remains the same. The next part is the fan. It is located adjacent to wick. It is used for evaporation of water within.

Impeller humidifiers, which are also known as cool mist humidifiers, uses a rotating disc which flings the water making the water to float in the air as very fine droplets. These humidifiers can be a good breeding place for molds and bacteria's. In order to prevent this, thorough cleaning of the humidifier is required regularly. The chances of burn are much reduced in this humidifier since the vapor coming out from the machine is not heated. The water used in this type of humidifier is distilled water.
