Causes And Cure Of Acne Scars

By Melvin Spencer

Acne is a nagging problem particularly for women, with its sudden appearance and the lasting scars that it causes. No matter how much you abhor it, acne is an undeniable part of most teenagers' lives and a fair amount of effort must be put behind fighting these ugly little things and checking their recurrence.

Acne is the result of a reaction between bacteria and sebum released by the glands present in skin, leading to an infection. As the infection heals, collagen, which is a protein, is created in the inner layer of the skin. If collagen is in excess, it results in a swelling, and if it is below normal, it causes tiny depressions on the surface of the skin. Either of these eventualities can lead to acne scars. Teenagers usually suffer a lot more than others as the amount of hormones increase rapidly during the period of puberty leading to increased release of sebum.

Among the typical reasons of acne infection are application of beauty products that are not appropriate for the type of skin, taking contraceptive pills, consumption of medicinal drugs, and genetic reasons. Various other factors such as mental tension, unhealthy food habits, and even pollution can result in acne. However, contrary to common perception, there is no scientific connection between oily or junk food and acne.

Although a variety of creams and herbal skin care products are available in the market to deal with acne, it is advisable to take medical help if the problem aggravates or keeps on recurring. In order to ensure that acne does not increase, it is advisable to abstain from squeezing the lesion or piercing it with sharp things.

Many affected people now go for various cosmetic treatments to make the marks disappear and regain a glowing skin. Laser based procedures and surgery are also being used increasingly for getting rid of acne scars, along with several innovative cures that have been discovered by medical science. You should take suggestions from a well known skin specialist who would be able to assess your skin type and suggest a proper remedy accordingly.
