Does Addiction Make You A Bad Person?

By James Handforth

Drug addiction is a curse that has plagued mankind since the middle of the last century. It gained popularity in the late 1960s through media, and other means of publication. Today, all of us have been affected by it, one way or the other, directly or indirectly. There are many reasons for people to use drugs. Some people use it for fun, and other use it to forget failures. On the other hand, there are different drugs of low and high intensity, which when get mixed in your blood, make you addict, and take your life near death.

Drug addiction is a chronic neurological disorder, which is often accompanied by abnormal behaviours such as, stealing, or forging prescriptions. The addict becomes dependent on the drugs so much that he cannot think rationally without them. Initially, an addict uses drugs to gain pleasure, but then it turns into an anxiety.

There are various kinds of drug addiction, and they all have many disadvantages. It might have been taken initially to lessen some pain, but once the affect of the drug reduces, the pain comes back. This is why drug addicts become so frustrated. He tries to get rid of the pain, and increase the quantity of the drug.

The feeling of guilt gives temptation to drug usage. People, who do not have strong will power, and are cowards, use such means to overcome their fears. Such people may get a single night sleep, but the feeling of guilt never leaves them.

In order to satisfy his/her need for drugs an addict gets into wrong acts against his/her family, friends and even himself/herself. These acts may include lying, not caring for his/her loved ones, hiding truth from them, and cheating on them, stealing etc. when his/her craving increases he/she is ready to commit any wrong act, because in this state, he/she does not have any control over himself/herself.

It is a common notion about the drug addicts that they can get rid of this habit on their own. However, they are people with weak nerves, if they were that strong they would not have started taking drugs in the first place. Many new studies and researches have cleared various false beliefs about drug addicts. Various rehabilitation centres treat these addicts and make them useful beings. Drug addicts are a shame for the society. Addicts can behave in any way, and there is no future ahead for them. Anything can be expected from him/her for the fulfilment of his/her needs. He/she does not respect people, and so gets the same in return. their families and friends avoid and mistreat them.

Drug addicts become a symbol of disgrace for the society. Anything, or any act can be expected from an addict, and therefore he/she certainly does not have a future. He/she is capable of committing any sin just to satisfy his/her cravings. He/she does not care, or respect others, and therefore gets the same in return. Every one avoids addicts; gradually they get neglected by their friends, and families as well.

The government should also arrange for their free treatments. An addict becomes addict when he/she is under stress, or when they feel helpless, so if we help them and stand by them, they can become useful citizens again.
