Natural Constipation Remedies

By Elizabeth North

If you have a diet that is high in bad foods, such as lots of carbohydrates, junk food and alcohol, you may suffer from constipation from time to time. If this happens you should immediately increase your intake of fresh vegetables and fruit as this will provide your body with a lot more fiber and roughage that is needed to pass feces easily. Some natural laxative foods are almonds, apricots (dried), avocados, chicory, coconut, dandelion (eat the dandelion leaves only if the do not have chemicals on them), dates, endive, figs, flaxseed, grapes, mango's, olive, papayas, parsley, persimmons, pineapple, prunes, rhubarb, soybeans, turnips, walnuts, watercress.

I have changed my diet to include a high intake of fruit and vegetables and always try to limit the junk food that I have. My favorite supplements are flaxseed and mangos.

If you suffer from an illness this can also affect your bowel movement. Supplement your food with increased vitamin C intake as this will help fight off any unwanted illness that may be affecting your bowel movements.

Once you get constipation the condition will only get worse unless it is treated. As the longer food stays in your digestive system for, the more water gets drained out of it for the rest of your body. Thus making the food every more dry and hard to move along. There is one cure for this and that is to increase your water intake to around 8 pints of water a day. To be honest, the more the better. Your body will take what it needs to survive then the excess water flushes through your system. This will add moisture to the food that is clogging up your system and help everything to move a long. If you really get bored of water, it is OK to add a few drops of lemon and limes.

If you are still struggling to find a cure, then below is a list of some great supplements you may want to try.

Magnesium
Folic Acid
Apple Pectin
Few tablespoons of honey into milk

If problems persist for 1-2 weeks, go and consult your doctor
