A Look At How Anyone Can Manage Blackheads Quickly And Effectively

By Jack Bennington

Anyone with acne knows how unsightly and embarrassing it can be. It is bad enough to have innocuous pimples scattered around your face. When you have blackheads too it is an entirely different story. If you are someone who has to deal with blackheads, learning how to look after them properly is very important so that you do not end up with other skin problems as a result of bad removal practices.

Other than color, there is very little difference between whiteheads and blackheads. Both types of blemishes are caused by clogged pores. Whiteheads will often be a small, raised, red area on the face or body. It usually has a small white center that is made up of accumulated pus, oil and other natural bodily substances. A blackhead is also a small bump but the top is much darker than a whitehead is. A blackhead is darker because the insides have been exposed to air. There is always an opening at the top of the blackhead. This causes its contents to oxidize. They can turn yellow, brown or black.

Most people hate blackheads because they are quite visible. This can be especially true if you are light skinned. Blackheads often appear in clusters as well which can add to their visibility. If a number of very small blackheads are located close together, it may look as if there is dirt on the skin although the skin is no less clean than if you had normal pimples. You may find clusters of blackheads which have grown around the outside of the nose.

You may find it is much easier to squeeze the contents out of a blackhead than you would any other kind of pimple. This is mainly due to the opening at the top of the blemish. The opening at the top of a blackhead is much larger than the natural opening at the top of a whitehead. Often people think it is possible to clear up blackheads by squeezing them to work the contents out of the pore. This can clear them up but you may need to be careful.

The first thing that you need to keep in mind is that it is important not to damage the skin around the blackheads. This can make the condition worse. You can actually force the contents of the blackhead into the surrounding tissues if you apply too much pressure to the skin around the blackhead, you may end up with an infection that can be spread over a larger area than you would like. Depending on how bad the infection gets, you may find that you will need to take medication to get rid of the problem.

There are a few different ways that you can get rid of blackheads. There are pore clearing strips that you smooth on the skin and leave in place for several minutes. When the strip is peeled off it pulls the contents of the blackheads out of the skin. This lets blemishes begin clearing up and they will disappear over time.

The same chemicals in pore strips are also found in facial cleansers. You can find pore refining and cleansing creams that will help keep blackheads from forming. They can also help clear out blockages that are already in the pores and can break up blackheads so they can heal. A common ingredient in many over the counter acne products is salicylic acid. This is safe and quite effective at treating pimples. However it can dry your skin and often, people who have reached adulthood do not find these products to be as effective. You may need to switch formulas if this is the case with you.

If you are having severe outbreaks of acne you may want to see a dermatologist who can determine what the best course of treatment is for you. They can also prescribe more powerful creams and medications to clear up your breakouts. However, some of the prescription drugs can have serious side effects and you will need to think carefully before deciding to take them.

Blackheads are unsightly but they do not cause ill health. If you want to treat them it is essential to make sure you are doing it properly so that you can minimize scarring. Keep in mind that a good, balanced diet and a gentle skincare routine can be the best way to avoid developing blackheads in the first place.
