Massage Oils that Relax and Unwind

By Jan Vasquez

Ahh Rub it in! Imagine yourself lying face down and being pampered to the hilt with a relaxing massage. There is nothing like a massage to soothe and smooth out our frazzled nerves. And, when you couple this with aromatic massage oils, now that's really something!

You can't have a great massage without the oil. No, sir. The massage oil helps to smooth the movements of kneading, pushing and so forth that are usually used during a massage. Without it, the massage will feel rough and stressful. Massage oils also serve other purposes, depending on the kind of massage oil you choose. There are some that work as moisturizers and some that relieve you of pain.

Now, here is a short list of massage oils that are available in the market:

Jojoba oil is taken from the wax of jojoba seeds. It effectively cleans the pores of the skin, ridding these of dirt and grime. Jojoba (pronounced ho-ho-ba) is great not just as a massage oil - it is also used for hair care products, facial products and lotions. Apricot kernel oil, on the other hand, is an excellent carrier oil. This fine-textured oil has a lot of vitamin E as well as poly-unsaturated fatty acids.

Chamomile oil is popular for its ability to calm people down. It also promotes a good night's rest, as well as provides relief for headaches and insect bites. Another great relaxing oil is lavender oil. A whiff of this will help you ease into sleepy-land.

Sandalwood oil also is an excellent stress reliever. It is also helpful for those who are asthmatic, or who have bronchitis, coughs, sore throat and urinary tract infections. Having a scent similar to sandalwood oil is cedar-wood oil, which also reminds one of the smell of pencils. It is also beneficial for those who have urinary tract infections. It also helps to rid one of phlegm and bladder and kidney ailments.

The above oils are just a few from a long list of massage oils you could choose from. There are a lot of essential oils and carrier oils that have various useful properties. You can make your own oil by mixing the ones you like.
